Melanie Kjarsaard
Melanie Kjarsgaard is a respiratory therapist and clinical research coordinator in the Airway Inflammometry Research laboratory at the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health at St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph in 1997, a diploma in Respiratory Therapy from the Michener Institute for Health Sciences in 2000, and a Masters of Science from McMaster University in 2023. She was the recipient of the Research Staff Recognition award in 2017.
St. Joseph’s Hospital was her base hospital for her clinical year in the Respiratory therapy program where she began working following graduation. She worked in the ICU/hospital wards in 2000, then transitioned to the Firestone clinic in 2001. In 2005, she joined the research team of the late Professor Freddy Hargreave where since 2007, has been co-ordinating the translational airway research program with Professor Parameswaran Nair. In addition to her expertise in evaluating biologics for the treatment of severe complex airway diseases, she also trains technologists in Canada and globally in sputum inflammometry.
Fun Fact: Melanie love cats and is a huge star wars fan!
